You must play this game in your lifetime
Recently, I completed the game ‘What Became of Edith Finch’ and was pleasantly surprised by how good it is. The game is about a young woman returning to her family home. She is the last surviving member of her family. All of the members of the house have died in unusual ways. This discovery of how each person died is the basis of the game. I usually don’t like these “walking simulator” types of games, but I assure you, this one is different from anything that you have played before.
Ok, the game ‘Gone Home’ is actually quite similar in many ways, but I’ve completed that game too, and I enjoyed this one more. Both games have mysterious circumstances, creepy big houses to explore, and hidden passageways and secrets, but ‘Edith’ (which is how I will refer to the game going forward due to the long title) has 2 more things going for it. 1. It has your character as a narrator, which provides much more context than just finding things as in ‘Gone Home’. This drew me into the story more. 2. The game mechanics change as you discover the story of each family member. In order to get to the story of the family member, you have to figure out how to get inside of the room, as most rooms are either locked or otherwise…
